Between Memory and Water Is Where Species Meet

Site: Gowanus Canal, Brooklyn, NY

Purpose: Residential

Project type: Individual

Module: ARC5047 Design Resolution 2

My final L5 project challenged my design capabilities to the limit, with the task of designing an entire masterplan for a derelict site alongside the heavily polluted Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, NY. I was not only designing for humans – in my case, homeless and low-income individuals as identified in my manifesto following rigorous research into the area – but also a second, non-human species: bees, who would play an important part in the revitalization of the derelict area and the scheme as a whole.
