The Roman Baths: The Importance of Conservation in the City of Bath

Case study: The Roman Baths, Bath, UK

Words: 3300

Module: ARC5041 Architectural Theory & Research Methods

"Discuss the key principles underpinning conservation work for architectural practices on one significant historic building in either the UK or another country of your choice. Your essay should make reference to the legislative framework that governs conservation in the location of your case study and you should address any contentious issues that were faced during the planning and construction phase such as preservation, repair, alterations and choice of materials."

For my second essay, I chose the topic of conservation as I had enjoyed previous opportunities to learn about the subject, alongside my interest in architectural history. I decided to investigate the Roman Baths in Bath as my case study due to their great historic importance and the conservation efforts that are carried out to this day to maintain the historic site as both a monument and a tourist attraction.
